Quarter inch rollers are great for smooth walls. One inch rollers are great for popcorn texture and other deep textures. These bristles can easily penetrate such textures to ensure that the paint goes on smoothly. If the wall is something in between, consider a medium 3/8 inch paint roller.

When the time comes to get painting, make sure to overlap your roller strokes. You don’t want to have to go back and paint areas that you missed originally. Most places recommend roller strokes by 30% to 50%.
